Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey. It is a gift for believers who want to revive their faith, seek the forgiveness of Allah Almighty, and strengthen their connection with Allah Almighty.

As fortunate Muslims embark on this spiritual retreat, they look for ways to connect with the Almighty. One of the best ways is through duas and supplications.

Duas for Umrah enable you to make the most of every step and stage of the pilgrimage.

The voluntary pilgrimage is all about immersing yourself in the remembrance of the Almighty and engaging in various acts of worship.

Dua is not only an act of worship but also the ultimate communication tool for Muslims to ask Allah Almighty for forgiveness, mercy, blessings, and whatever their heart desires.

So, if you are planning to be among the fortunate UK Muslims embarking on an Umrah journey soon, here is the perfect dua guide for you.

Duas for Umrah

Duas for Every Stage of Umrah

There are no fixed duas for Umrah. Everyone has the freedom to recite whichever duas and supplications they prefer.

Here are some duas that fit the pilgrimage supplication requirements, and some are even taught to Muslims by Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

1. Duas Before Starting Your Umrah

Before you embark on the spiritual retreat, take this time to make sincere dua to Allah. Express your gratitude for the invitation to His home and ask Him to make your journey easy, accept your worship and forgive your sins.

2. Dua for Travelling

As you board your vehicle, recite the following Sunnah dua.

Transliteration

Subhaanal-ladhee sakhkhara lana haadha wa maa kunna lahu muqrineen. Wa innaa ilaa Rabbinaa lamunqaliboon.

Meaning

“Glory is to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could not have done it ourselves. And surely to our Lord we will return.”

3. Dua When Entering Ihram

Ihram is the state of purity that every pilgrim must observe before they head to the pilgrimage sites. As you enter this state at the Miqat point, you will also have to declare your intention to perform the pilgrimage.

You may say:

Labbayka Allahumma ‘Umrah.

Meaning: “Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah.”

4. Talbiyah: The Main Dhikr of Ihram

As soon as the pilgrims enter the state of Ihram, they start performing dhikr. Talbiyah is the main dhikr of Ihram. It is a beautiful supplication and one of the most prominent acts of remembrance as pilgrims head over to Makkah for Umrah.

Transliteration

Labbayka Allahumma labbayk, labbayka laa shareeka laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni‘mata laka wal-mulk, laa shareeka lak.

Meaning

“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed, all praise, blessings and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”

5. Dua When Entering Masjid al-Haram

Entering Masjid al-Haram for the first time is such an overwhelming experience. Recite the following supplication, which is a general dua for entering a mosque.

Transliteration

Bismillaah, wassalaatu wassalaamu ‘alaa Rasoolillaah. Allahumma-ftah lee abwaaba rahmatik.

Meaning

“In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy.”

6. Dua During Tawaf

There are no fixed duas for Tawaf. But this is one of the best times to make endless duas and supplications. You can make dua in Arabic or in your own language, recite Qur’an, praise Allah, send salawat upon the Prophet (SAW) or engage in other forms of dhikr.

Here is a Sunnah dua that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) taught his followers to recite between the Yemeni corner and Black Stone during Tawaf.

Transliteration

Rabbanaa aatinaa fid-dunyaa hasanatan wa fil-aakhirati hasanatan wa qinaa ‘adhaaban-naar.

Meaning

“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

7. Dua After Completing Tawaf

As you complete your Tawaf, you can recite the following verse.

Rabbanaa taqabbal minnaa innaka antas-Samee‘ul-‘Aleem.

“Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”

-Surah Al-Baqarah (2:127).

8. Duas to Recite During Sa’i

Sa’i is also one of the best times to immerse yourself in supplication. You are free to recite whichever supplications you want and can also make personal duas in your language.

When approaching Safa, recite the Qur’anic verse:

إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ

Innas-Safaa wal-Marwata min sha‘aa’irillaah.

“Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah.”

Then you may say:

أَبْدَأُ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِهِ

Abda’u bimaa bada’allaahu bih.

“I begin with that with which Allah began.”

When you reach Safa, face the Kaaba, praise Allah and make your personal supplications.

The Prophet (SAW) would proclaim Allah’s greatness and oneness and make dua between repetitions. You can recite:

Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadeer.

“There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over everything.”

Don’t forget to make personal duas at this time too. Ask Allah Almighty for:

  • Forgiveness
  • Guidance
  • A righteous family
  • Success in your lawful affairs
  • Protection from hardship
  • Barakah in your wealth and time
  • Good health
  • A strong relationship with Allah
  • Jannah and protection from Hellfire
  • And anything else your heart desires in this world and in the hereafter.

9. Dua Before Cutting or Shaving Hair

You can say:

“ O Allah, accept my Umrah, forgive my sins and allow me to remain steadfast in obedience to You.”

Summing Up

Duas are the ultimate companion of pilgrims during Umrah. Even though there are no specified duas, you should still prepare an Umrah dua list with Quranic and Sunnah supplications and duas of your choice to ensure that you make the most of the spiritual retreat.

Before travelling, make sure your Umrah Visa requirements are also arranged so you can focus on your worship and spiritual experience. You can add the above-mentioned duas to your list and all the other duas that you want to recite at the most sacred sites in Islam.
